10:39 am: It's been a really long time...
My puppy is sick, I'm working from home and hopefully will get a lot done today.  The clutter is starting to irritate me so I need to find homes for everything.

Ryan moved in so hopefully I will have someone to talk to now instead of talking at someone who responds mainly to his computer.

Summer is here, so I have a lot of summer projects underway or already done!

I had the porch painted as well as the front door and steps (they did an ok job, but it wasn't spectacular).  I'm in the process of finishing the garage door and I need to go look for trim, but it is MUY chilly today.

Scenario: For exactly 1 minute, you get access to all the databases of all the intelligence agencies in the world (CIA, FBI, KGB, MI-5, etc). What do you want to find out before time is up and you're caught and jailed forever?

12:13 pm: What would you do?
Current Job One: You like your job, but as with all jobs, you do get irritated at times at procedures/processes/people.  You also don't get paid as much as your colleagues, and are given assignments that are on par with the ones they are given.  (You do ask for challenges so that you get these higher assignments, but no compensation is given with challenge)  You thrive in stressful, fast moving situations, and there are a lot of those in this job.  You feel like you will be kept in the same position for a long period of time without additional compensation especially with the way the economy is and the high cost of living in your area.

Possible New Job Two: You MAY like this new job, it definitely pays more, but you are scared that it may become boring and monotonous.  You are also afraid that you may not be able to do this job, even though your mentors and peers believe you will do fabulously.  This job is different than the other job and is more of a leadership/mentoring role which you believe would be good for your career.  Fear of Change is also a factor.  Fear of switching areas and disappointing your current bosses because you like them as individuals is also a factor.

One last thing: You would definitely stay in the current job if you were paid the same and given the opportunity to grow/be promoted as the possible new job.

07:52 pm: Resolutions part deux
Soooo, I went to the gym today (and since that is my only access to a reliable scale I weighed myself), and apparently, I've already lost 7 pounds, therefore negating my first resolution.  However I still have to keep it off!  Wish me luck!

At least that's a good sign!

11:24 pm: My New Year's Resolutions:
1) To lose that extra 5 pounds and keep it off
2) To not damage my new car... again
3) To put $1000 in my savings every month (HA) or towards paying off my mortgage faster...

12:40 am: Car is getting fixed....and it'll be like brand new, so now I'm afraid that I'm going to screw it up again....ugh....garages are the bane of my existence.  Who wants to put bets down that I'll do the exact same thing?

I only have problems in garages and parking lots!!! (Sound familiar Nathaniel?)

So who wants to send me a $650 present???  :D

December 28th, 2008

01:02 am: Yes, this all happened in one day:
The Good: I got a new car, and I got a pretty good deal on it! (Honda Accord LX '09)

The Bad: I drove around, and drove into the garage.

The Ugly: I actually did drive INTO the garage, as in, scraped up/dented/lost paint on my rear passenger door/fender area

So now, I am trying:
a) to find the cheapest place to fix it / or at least make it look like it's fixed. (the worst part is the chipped paint on the edge/small scratch)  The dent should come right out pretty easily.
b) ignore that it happened and go on with my life (and fix it myself...somehow)
c) to not run to the nearest dealership and have them fix it
d) to not think about how much money I just spent, and how much money in the future I will spend on this car

And I thought owning a home was hard, just try owning a NEW car with my luck.

:( :( :( :(

*cries*
*cries a lot*
*needs hugs*

10:38 pm: Broken Japanese Beetle (aka, my car)
I didn't want to clutter up the other post...cause it was already getting long...but anyway

Tonight

After getting back from a fun vacation

I backed into a dumpster

with my car

(although, to be fair, I hit the piece that sticks out a little bit on one side (so I couldn't really see it) and the reason why I hit it was because my front wheels slipped off of the parking spot (raised parking spot) while I was turning)

Now I don't have that plastic piece that goes over the tail lights.  I crushed it GOOD.

I also have a dent in my car (not that it matters, because my car is so freaking old and green) and I think it dent really easily because it's about 12 degrees here.

So I have tomorrow off and I'm going to go find a replacement and get to work with a hammer to get that dent out.  Find some spray paint and DONE!

10:05 pm: You know I find reading so much more fun than posting?
So here goes!

We just got back from a 7-day cruise (Roatan, Honduras / Belize City, Belize / Cozumel, Mexico / Grand Stirrup Cay, Bahamas) and it was a lot of fun!

I didn't take very many pictures, because it was more about the relaxation than anything else, but boy were we happy when we got back and got our pets back!
  I really missed them both!

Oh, and the flight back was truly amazing!  We were scheduled to come back around 9pm (with a layover in Atlanta), but we were able to catch an earlier flight on a crazy Sunday in Miami that was non-stop and arrived 8 hours earlier!!! HALLELUJAH!!!

I actually had a choice of that flight originally but I was scared to take it because it was so early and I didn't know how quickly we would be able to get off of the ship, get through customs, get to the airport, and get through airport security/baggage etc.  Still amazing.  Although one sad note was a woman at one of the counters told me that they didn't do stand-by flights on  Sundays because of the heavy Cruise rush...liar liar pants on fire....and we were soo upset because we tried to get there early in case we would be able to get a flight back....ugh....I hate it when they lie!

But anyway, the rest of the trip was really nice.  ;) ;) I had about 30 soft serve yogurt/ice cream cones in the first 3-4 days, and after that, if you can imagine, I was sooo sick of it.  Also had bacon for almost every meal!

It was really nice weather, and it wasn't too hot/or cold.  We did have some rain/cloudiness, but if it had been any sunnier I would be a lobster right now.  As it is, I missed my entire stomach on the last day and it's pretty red...but no pain yet!

We laid out by the pool a lot and I think the most fun was had on the last day at the private beach.  I think it really depends who you go with so that you can entertain each other while you are out there (laying out by the ocean/pool).  I didn't have to listen to anyone bitching and moaning about their hair or what they were going to wear that night or any of that other nonsense which really drives me crazy.  And it wasn't silent the whole time which was nice as well.  We met some interesting characters and heard a lot of life stories...etc...etc which was fun.  I think this was the first time I was actually able to enjoy laying out.

I also had the first whole beer I have ever drank my entire life.  And beer is still gross.  And I felt like I had a pot-belly because even after 1, I was soooo fulllll....How annoying!  They were cheaper though, because those mixed drinks were 10 dollars a piece (however delicious they were)

I think next time it would be better to go all inclusive (aka, alcohol and ALL food included) because I think we spent at least 200-300 on drinks and the 'specialty' restaurants.  The general food was good, but was very repetitive so we did Mexican one night and Hibachi another and overall a lot of drinking (even if it didn't feel like that much)

We also went Zip Lining and Cave Tubing and I'm fairly certain that was the company/place we went with (although it was about $30 more expensive per person when we were on the ship...oh well...lesson learned!) Andrew really liked the cave tubing and I really liked the zip lining.  (I think I may be getter over my fear of heights...slowly...you still won't see my jumping off of any cliffs!)  The cave was really amazing and there was a natural sink hole in the middle, so it was like being in the center of the earth and all of a sudden having light and jungle right in the middle.  We had head-lamps because it really was pitch black in there!

Andrew and I both agreed that Honduras was scary and not somewhere we'd be going back to soon.  I was walking around with a towel and I thought I was going to be mugged by 8-10 yr olds.  They kept coming up to me and they knew two phrase, "You buy, 1 dollar!" and "Give me towel"  Seriously!?

What I most regret is that I didn't spend any time learning about the cultures of Honduras and Belize, which to me was kinda the point of going to those two countries, otherwise we could have spent more time island hoping Bahamas and Jamaica/ etc...and less time "At Sea"

Woud I go again? Yes!  It was a great time and an amazing deal!

08:41 pm: Miami
If you were going to be in Miami for one afternoon and one night, what would you do? Where would you go?  I'm trying to figure out things to do for that one day...hmmm.....  Any sights that are must-see?

We're going on a cruise right after, so laying on the beach is out...

09:01 pm: Writer's Block: United Nations World Teachers Day

In recognition of United Nations World Teachers Day, let us reflect on the subjects we hated most in school but must now grudgingly admit were useful. What subject will today’s students find most useful when they’re older?

I liked Math and the Sciences, but hated english and history.  So english (literature/writing) is now proving the most useful in my job...

12:54 pm: Writer's Block: Sarah Palin?

Is Sarah Palin a shrewd choice for the Republican Party, or is she a liability?

View 500 Answers

I think it was a shrewd choice, but also a gimmick to choose a woman.  US needs change right now, and I don't think they are going to get it from the Republican Party.  I think throwing a woman in there is definitely a step they felt they had to make with Obama being African American.  They need that edge in order to regain popularity.  Personally, I find McCain way too straight laced which will hurt him in the end.  If we wanted to go back to the 1920s mentality, then we could build a time machine.

All I have to say is, not another Bush.

10:20 pm: I haven't posted for a bit (as usual)...

So, I was down in B/N for about 4 hours, for my Grandma's birthday.  She gets sicker and sicker looking every time I see her.  It really is very scary how short her short term memory is now.  She can't remember that she put her camera on the counter about 30 seconds after she does it, and its sitting right in front of her!  Oy..

In another note, i was down in B/N last weekend for my dad's family reunion which was 2.5 days long and I took my sister shopping.  I'm hoping the next time I'm down there I can spend some time with some of you, who I have been missing and have lost touch with a little :(  Send me a comment to let me know when the best weekends are!

Tomorrow I've got a video conference call with our vendor, should be exciting, even though I hear the equipment is a little old.  I'm excited, my first work video conference!  I'm working with a vendor in the Netherlands, so I'm kinda hoping that I'll get the opportunity to go for a visit, wouldn't that be awesome?  I keep getting vendor projects recently, I don't know if its because we're getting such an inflow, or if all of the vendors have a positive working relationship with me and keep requesting me or what.  It's cool though, I'm getting to meet a lot of people outside of the company.

Andrew is switching jobs!  Ok, ok, within the company, but its still cool.  I hope he likes his new job in the internet area...(he's going from intranet to internet).

Saturday we went and looked at Sheltie puppies and Andrew is going to put a deposit down for one of the tomorrow to reserve our 'place' in line.  We'll be 4th in a litter of 5, but if there isn't one that we really like left then we'll be first of the next littler, which is supposed to be due soon.

I've gotten back into wearing my contacts recently, I can't stand not being able to shield my eyes with my fantastic sunglasses ;)  It took about a week and a half for my eyes to re-accept my contacts.  I was thinking about laser surgery, but now I'm thinking I can probably go another year or two because contacts are way less expensive and right now I'm more focused on fixing the house up.  Who has 2K-3K to spend on an elective surgery!  That's new carpeting or new stairs/entryway and bathrooms.  Carpeting is way expensive people!

I've decided that I'm going to host Christmas this year, so the new stairs have to be in before that because of my elderly relatives and small children....there's my incentive to get a move on!  I really don't think the stairs will take too long, but I know the entry ways and taking all of that damn glued on laminate is going to take awhile....grrr damn laminate .. grr!

Ok, gotta finish laundry..ciao!
